We crossed a big thing off of our bucket list...taking the kids on a backpacking trip up to Utah's highest peak. Kings Peak. We decided to head up Thursday morning and come home Sunday so we could have one rest day on the trail. It turned out to be the perfect way to do it.
We made it to the trailhead at about 11am, we pulled out our gear and weighed our packs to see what we would be carrying for the next 8 miles. Russell's pack was 60 pounds! He is the best dad. Aiden's was about 45lbs. Mine and Eliza's were 35 pounds and Jacks was about 30. We are so strong.
Ready to hit the trail.
These guys hiked to good! I loved that they were all happy and strong enough to do a 28 mile round trip hike.
This was a great resting spot for Aiden, the middle of the rocky trail.
We made it to the turn off to Dollar Lake. We did not go that way, we kept going straight up to Bear Lake. That mile up to Bear Lake was steep!
We did walk over to the bridge for a picture.
After we set up camp, the teenagers crashed. We brought up two tents because these guys are getting so big. Kids in one tent and Russ and I in the other.
If you make steak and potatoes for us on one campout you have to make it for us every time.
This was such a great dinner after a hard 8 miles of backpacking.
We had the best camp spot on the shores of Bear Lake. We heard another camp but never saw them. It was awesome.
The lighting that night was so pretty.
Our home for the next three nights.
