At the end of September we went on a two day backpacking trip into the Grand Staircase National Monument.
We went with three other couples, Roger and Jenn, Joleen and Layne and Jim and Diane.
It was a great time, hard hiking, and great conversations and no one got poison ivy!
We started our hike in the dark. We drove four hours from Orem to the trailhead, jumped out of the car and hike a few miles in the dark to this great campsite. It was fun hiking at night and we got a few miles under us for the next day.
It was definitely a lot of up and downhill to next campsite. Not a lot of shade, over hard slick rock. This is me and my huge pack walking along.
We sure have fun with our hiking group.
Roger and me heading down, down, down to Death Hallow. That meant we had to go up, up, up the next day!
We found our next campsite in a sandy spot near the river. It had shade and was so pretty. We stopped here, set up camp, had lunch and then headed into the water for a few mile hike down in the hallow.
We hiked in the water for the rest of the afternoon. It was a lot of fun. There was poison ivy all over the banks so this was safe to stay in the river.
Me and my babe. He sure does take care of me on these trips. Cooks all of the food and carries most of the weight. I love having adventures with Russell Dean.
It was so pretty down there.
After our day hike we came back to camp for dinner. It got a little cold so here are Layne, Russell and Jenn in their head scarfs.
Me and Jenn. She is a really great hiking friend. We have done a lot of hard amazing hikes together and she is always so positive and sets a good pace!
Selfie.
We enjoyed beach front real estate for our dinner and evening fun. The red plant in the foreground is poison ivy.
Here are the fearless hikers: Russell, Dana, Jim, Diane, Joleen, Layne, Jenn and Roger.
We spent the night, woke up the next morning and did a huge hike out of there the next day.
Until the next one....

THat's fun that you got to hike through water for a bit. Looks like you didn't fall in. :)
