Ruth Lake and Beyond

This was our second annual backpacking trip to Ruth Lake in the Uinta's. Again we left Jack behind with Grandma Liston (next year Jack) and headed into the wilderness. When we got to the trail head at 11:30 am the temperature reading in the car said 47 degrees. Did that stop us? No! Not with Russell leading the party. :)

Here are Russell and Eliza making their way up the trail. It's a nice easy hike for the kids and beautiful.

Here are Aiden and Eliza-notice the big heavy coats even while hiking. Did I mention it was cold?

Aiden is standing on a cute little bridge that was covering a little stream. The kids had their backpack's with their cloths in them and did a great job carrying them up to the lake.

Here are Eliza and I posing in front of this beautiful mountain, I am not sure what it is called but it is very impressive.

Eliza took this shot of Russell in front of the marker. He is still smiling with a 60 pound pack. What a Dad!

This is me trying on the said pack. It was so heavy, I only had it on for a minute and I don't know how Russell hiked up with it on his back!

We decided to camp at a new lake this year, just past Ruth. I believe it was called Naomi Lake. No fish, but plenty of salamanders. It was really pretty. The good thing about the cold was there were no bugs and no people. We had the lake to ourselves!

This was our campsite, and here is Aiden peeking out of the tent. It did hail on us for about an hour so we jumped in the tent and played cards. The kids were so good and had such a great time exploring that I don't even think they noticed it was cold.

Sunday brought with it the sunshine! Hooray. We did a little exploring and found what we believe is called Jewel Lake (we need a map!). From this point we could look down into the water and see fish swimming around. So we hiked down to see if we could catch any.

Here is Eliza holding a worm. She was so funny. She kept wanting me to touch things, like worms, bait, fish, whatever she thought was cool to touch she wanted me to experience it, too. Isn't she so sweet? :)

And here is Aiden with his catch for the day. He caught a nice tiger trout. Eliza was sad that she didn't catch one, but Aiden let her carry it so that made her happy.
It was a fun adventure and can't wait for the third annual trip!

What a great family tradition. Jim hiked King's Peak this weekend with the scouts. It looks like he was caught in the same storm as you guys. He said the same thing, it was cold!
Glad you had a good trip and everyone was safe!

What an adventure. There is nothing like getting away, out into the wild with family. I loved the picture of Aiden and Eliza with their arms around each other.

Your sister's weekend looks so fun! Your mom is so sweet to put that together!
